Rookie Australian Formula 1 driver Oscar Piastri had a career-best drive this weekend, making it onto the podium for the first time. His third place finish comes just days after his official contract extension with the highly-competitive McLaren.
Being the baby newborn 22 year old that he is, he has the luxury of a barely-formed frontal lobe. There’s no fear running through his veins, just adrenaline and youth.
Do you know who does have fear? His poor mother, Nicole.
The reason I know this is that Nicky with the good hair is anything but shy and is all over X (formerly Twitter) telling it like it is.
Her reaction to Oscar’s three-year contract extension? “What! So we are doing this for another 3 years???”.
And this is why we – and the internet – love her.
Remember when we found out Jay Z cheated on Beyonce and we all lost hope in EVER being safe from infidelity? Like if it can happen to Queen B, it can happen to anyone? Well, our very own podium placer, Oscar Piastri has just given us a fresh new dose of “Celebrities, they’re just like us!”.
His mother Nicole is ALL of our mothers. Million dollar contracts? Playboy status? Private jets around the world? What good are these things if you’re dead! I can almost hear her seeing a safety car enter the track and asking ‘why can’t you just race one of those?’.
McLaren did their best to settle the Matriarch’s nerves. CEO Zak Brown offered to fly her to Japan to watch her son race. Nicky clapped back with gracious (but brutal) honesty “Thank you for the kind offer, Zak, but I think it’s best that I have my anxiety attack in the comfort of my own home.”
Nicole is the real MVP, reminding us that behind every great athlete is an absolutely RATTLED woman who brought said athlete into the world. Birthing, rearing and nurturing them only to see them willingly trot into an experimental speedy chunk of metal.
